Boor

This township of about 10 buildings is perched on a steep slope above Loch Ewe, with small cultivation enclosures all around. The presence of several roundhouses indicates the landscape has been used for thousands of years.

This rather ragged image is an attempt to put together the various components of the ‘Boor Puzzle’.

There are various elements :

  • Bronze Age / Iron Age dwellings & contemporary landscape, including a burnt mound

  • Pre-crofting township & field system with extended cultivation areas

  • An old track from the shores of Loch Ewe all the way to Loch Gairloch

  • Nearby, but not on image, was a mill at the foot of Boor Burn

The map below is a tidied version with the background removed.

This map shows the extent of the track from Boor and how it joins with other old tracks/roads.
