Druim an Rubha Bhàin

The area lies to the west of Big Sand crofting township and occupies a strip of land on a shelf above a rocky shoreline for over 1km.

This view shows the gently sloping shelf of cultivation with the steeper slope of the raised beach behind.

The cultivated area extends up to 100m inland from the rocky cliffs to the slope of a raised beach and stretches for over 1 km along the shoreline. A head dyke runs along the length of the cultivation fields.

The cultivation rigs are mainly 2-3m apart, although some are 5m apart.

The remains of at least 15 structures are situated at the west end of the cultivated area.

Most of the structures are shieling huts, all with the same basic design.
